GEXAN ETXABE

The Bilbao-born baritone Gexan Etxabe began his vocal studies at the Municipal School of Music and the Conservatoire of his city, continuing his training with several renowned teachers. He is currently perfecting his technique with baritones Carlos Álvarez and Santos Ariño, as well as with pianist Iñaki Belasko.

For eleven seasons he was a member of the ABAO Bilbao Opera Chorus, taking part in more than 150 performances of 38 different titles, and made his solo debut in Britten’s Billy Budd during ABAO’s 2009 season.

He gave his first solo performance in 2014 with Dvořák’s Te Deum, presented at venues including the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, the Kursaal in San Sebastián and the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao. Since then, he has pursued an active career in opera, zarzuela and oratorio, being a regular collaborator in ABAO productions at the Euskalduna.

Among his recent engagements is his role as Telesforo in the world premiere of Jesús Guridi’s zarzuela Mari Eli, which took place in April 2025 at the Teatro Arriaga.
